Many thanks to our Heritage Toronto volunteers and everyone who joined us on our tour of Portuguese-Canadian history through Kensington Market and Portugal Village. We had a great time talking history and sharing our research face-to-face with fellow Torontonians of all backgrounds.

LENGTH: Approx. 2 hours
DIFFICULTY: Flat pavement, busy narrow streets

In the afternoon, you can learn more about the history of the Portuguese in Toronto by visiting our photo exhibit at the IC Savings Branch on Dundas St. West, just west of Ossington Ave., integrated in the 2015 Dundas Street West Fest.
The PCHP sends a big thank you to the Ethnography Lab’s Prof. Joshua Barker, Matthew Medeiros, and their students for taking our history tour in such a cold day. Your donation is also much appreciated.

We have put together an online companion for the Heritage Toronto Walking Tour “Portuguese Toronto”, taking place on June 7 (see here for more). Participants will able to access the PCHP website through their mobile devices to look at photos related to the locations and themes discussed at each stop. There is also a summary of the script we are using for the walk, so that those interested can revisit it at a later point.
We have also pulled new photos from our archival records at the Clara Thomas Archives & Special Collections and posted them in our website under the new section “Galleries“.
Check it out.
